Highland Store Tartan Collection
What is more Scottish than 'tartan'? Tartan is recognized worldwide as something quintessentially Scottish. The name of it probably comes from french word 'tiretaine' and it referred to a part wool, part linen material.
Nowadays tartans are registered by clans, families, institutions. They usually vary in amount of stripes and colours, but the pattern is always the same: crisscrossed horizontal and vertical bands. This is known as the 'sett',and forms a unique 'fingerprint' that distiguishes one tartan from any other in the world.
Tartans are enjoyed by millions of people worldwide, with Scottish ancestry or otherwise, who revel in the tremendous variety of checks produced.
